Up to Date Nutrition for Your Family | Healthmad

Up to Date Nutrition for Your Family | Healthmad

With all the diet books out it’s hard to understand exactly what a good nutritious diet is. One diet book tells us carbs are bad, one tells us they are good. I believe we would do better to leave these fad diets off and follow the guidelines of the Department of Agriculture. They list all the healthy foods we should be eating and the correct proportions for our family’s needs.

  1. Sorry, but I may have to gently disagree with you (sorry)! I can't put all all my trust in the Dept, of Ag. and the FDA. It's been proven over and over the government has lied to us, if only to boost farmers profits. I think we should follow the guidelines God set out before us, and refuse to eat what he didn't give us - processed foods, trans fats and all of the other chemicals put in food. Read the labels and if you don't understand what is in the food, put it back.

  2. Thank you for your kind comment on my blog, Ruby.
Moderation in all things is a good thing to go by when considering a healthful diet. Eat fresh seasonal produce with a high variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, limit fat intake to poyunsaturated and omega-3 rich ones, fish and other seafood, lean red meat occasionally.
My grandfather used to say: "Eat so much at a meal that you satiate your hunger and no more. If you were to sit at another table immediately after, you should be able to eat again (but of course you won't!)"
