Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt was much admired as the wife of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She was one of his best ambassadors. She worked tirelessly for the poor and disadvantaged. It was her great misfortune to be misdiagnosed and treated with a medication that hastened her death at the age of seventy-eight. Her doctors errors were covered up until the year of 1981 when two doctors wrote about it in the Baltimore Sun.

Kids are smarter than you think. They can learn quickly if provided with the opportunity. Who but you, the parent, taught them to expect presents and too much of everything to appreciate anything? They were not born with such high expectations. Okay, you are happy to be able to provide so much, but is it helping or hurting the kids? Many parents are feeling the pinch with jobs lost and working hours cut back. The wherewithal isn’t there anymore. Some parents have raided their hard earned savings to continue gym classes and name brand jeans. It isn’t in the best interest of you or your children.

We ladies do enjoy decorating and making changes in the house. Especially before the holidays when family and friends will be dropping in. There is good news for anyone who plans to redo the house before Christmas. Navy blue is back. It was popular several years ago, but it quietly died away. Now glossy navy blue is going strong again. For walls, cabinets, furniture and slip covers, decorators are using it everywhere.

We have children in America who go to bed every night hungry. The shame is that we grow plenty of food for our citizens and ship food to other countries. So why must our children suffer hunger? There are programs in place. But there is a stigma in accepting free food. Besides that problem, many people who qualify never know food is available. Georgia is hoping to change that.

Mitt Romney wants to dismantle the present system of Veterans Health Care and replace it with privatization, even though the VHA provides better care for veterans than private citizens receive, and at less cost. Why change a program that’s working? Ask a Republican. It’s their fundamental believe that the private sector can do a better job than the government. Anyone can look at our Health Care System with insurance companies, doctors and hospitals all working for profit and see how that works. It puts half the population out of any kind of healthcare.
