Military Women in Vietnam | Healthmad

Military Women in Vietnam | Healthmad

Our U.S. military women in Vietnam saw all the mutilating horrors of jungle warfare. Americana lost more limbs in Vietnam than in all other wars but due to the nurses efforts, fewer men lost their lives due to the wounds they received. Military nurses worked seven day a week under the most extreme circumstances. Four received the Purple Heart but President Reagan didn’t even mention their names during a 1981 Medal of Honor ceremony at the Pentagon.

Equality has yet to be achieved for women in the military. Although women have served their country in some fashion since time memorial. They served as washer women, cooks, and did other menial jobs in George Washington’s Army. Some women dressed as men and went into battle. They served in the Civil War and every war since, receive less pay and less benefits, put up with sexual innuendo and worse, yet they continue to serve.

Frederick Douglas The Most Influential Black of His Time | Socyberty

Frederick Douglas was the most influential man of color in his time. An escaped slave from Maryland, he went on to become an outspoken lecturer for the freedom of slaves, and women white and black. He was taunted and threatened with death while he worked for the freedom of his people. His biography describes the horror of his life as a slave, and his escape from it.

Rape in The Military | Socyberty

Rape in the military is a sad but true fact but that’s not the end if it. It’s also how the military handles the situation. Often the victims are discouraged from reporting rape and when they do report it little is done. A class action was filed Tuesday by a group of U.S. veterans who say they were raped and abused by their comrades then forced to live and work along side of them. They want to force the Pentagon to change how such cases are handled. Named in the federal class-action lawsuit were Defense Secretary Robert Gates and his predecessor, Donald Rumsfield.

A Jack Pot of Old Folk Sayings | Socyberty

A Jack Pot of Old Folk Sayings | Socyberty/

Colorful and to the point old folk sayings that were common in years past but have almost faded away.
I have published two articles of and about the Old Folk Sayings that I grew up with. I love these old colorful country sayings and hate to see them pass away. As I began, I had to dredge them up from the depth of my memory, but after the last article, they began to come to the surface and now I have remembered many more.

Politics in America | Socyberty

Politics in America | Socyberty

Americans complain about crooked politics and unsavory candidates, and it’s the truth. Look on the Internet, Newspapers or TV, and there are the names of politicians dealing in corruption, adultery, swindles and about anything you can think of. But we tend to think that earlier in our history politicians were more honest and acted with less self interest. Not so. Take a look at some of the earlier politicians in America. Don’t get me wrong. We do have politicians who are honest to the extent possible but most of it is self interest all the way.
